This collection contains records pertaining to the military service of James T. Eubank. Included is a letterbook kept by Eubank when he was deputy quartermaster in the United States Army during the War of 1812. The book dates from March 29, 1813 to March 16, 1814 and was written at places such as Miami Rapids, Fort Meigs, and Newport. The letters include an account of the siege and battle of Fort Meigs. A letter written by General William Henry Harrison to General James Taylor (1830) about the military service of Eubank is sewn into the volume. The book also contains accounts for the adjutant general (1813-1814).

James Taylor, the son of Col. James Taylor, was born on Apr. 19, 1769 in Caroline County, Virginia. He was educated at Rappahannock Academy. In 1788 Taylor was commissioned as surveyor of Caroline County and was made deputy sheriff.
